MALLORCA FACTS

The local currency is the Euro. Most banks can be found in the major towns and all cash points will accept major credit/debit cards.

Most businesses operate between 9am-1.30pm and 4.30pm-7pm. This time scale fluctuates in the tourist resorts.

Banks open Mon-Thurs 8.30am-4.30pm and Friday 8.30am-2pm. Some main branches will open on a Saturday 8.30am-1pm.

EU Citizens/USA/Canada/New Zealand and Japan who hold valid passports do not require visas to visit the island for less than 90 days. Should you be from another state please contact the Spanish Consulate.

The island is no different to the UK or any other European state. You should never presume that the island is totally crime free and always protect yourself from the common criminal, particularly pickpockets and bag snatchers in crowded areas. The most annoying element is the vendors who try to sell you cheap watches, handbags or tablecloths, however you can avoid this harassment by not visiting the areas they frequent. The most common thieves are the holiday makers themselves, so always be aware of who is in the same hotel as you or travelling on the same flight.

There are 3 types of Police Officer – The urban-based Policia Municipal; these officers keep the traffic under control and wear blue uniforms. The Policia Nacional; these officers uphold law and order on the island and wear brown uniforms. The Guardia Civil control the highways and country areas; these officers wear green uniforms.

Policia Municipal – 971 225500/971 225092
Policia Nacional -  971 225200/971 225091
Guardia Civil – 971 465112

In case of emergency:

Police – 091– Theft/Burglary
Police – 092 – Traffic Accident
Fire – 085(080 Palma)
Ambulance – 061
